Our Challenge

A highly regarded international restaurant group sought expert guidance to open their first NYC location. E|H was tasked with advising on NYC-specific compliance, helping to translate the company’s unique culture to the US market, and providing local on-site HR presence. E|H also would be responsible for supporting recruitment for their opening team, with the goal to grow the team from ten to over sixty people in a matter of two months.

Our Solution

E|H began by traveling to London to be immersed in the company’s unique culture and to collaborate with the London-based HR and operations teams. We built out the HR infrastructure to comply with NY City requirements while tailoring the NYC location’s benefits, compensation, onboarding and other processes to achieve the company’s goal of being a leading employer. Our team also developed a phased-in approach to enrich the company’s benefits over time, based on the company’s financial performance. When the pandemic hit, E|H assisted in laying off the opening team with empathy and transparency. We then hit the ground running in a challenging recruiting climate in early 2021, using practices developed over time to achieve results.

The Results

After two planned openings were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the business finally opened its doors to the public in early September of 2021. E|H worked hand-in-hand with the opening management team to recruit and onboard over sixty employees, process payroll, comply with the Key to NYC vaccine mandate. We also served in an advisory role regarding employee relations and development during their first months of operation.
