Our Challenge
A multi-unit chef-driven restaurant group based in New York City eliminated their HR director role during the Covid-19 pandemic and needed immediate support for day-to-day HR tasks such as onboarding, benefits enrollments, and payroll. The company was unsure of the specific skillset needed to support the HR function, and needed help determining the appropriate level of support. They did suspect that a highly-compensated director wasn’t necessary, though, and were in search of guidance in selecting a new internal HR resource. In addition, the company was planning for an upcoming high-profile opening, in addition to reopening the locations that had been closed during the pandemic.
Our Solution
E|H immediately assumed the company’s daily HR tasks while simultaneously recruiting a new internal HR generalist. We also onboarded and trained the generalist on her responsibilities and provided additional leadership in reporting, recruiting, benefits, and offboarding.
The Results
E|H created a hybrid HR staffing model perfectly optimized to the company’s needs and budget. By engaging with us, the company achieved both high-level HR leadership and hands-on, day-to-day presence from their internal generalist. E|H also became a sounding board for company operations and finance leaders as the company worked through the high turnover and morale challenges common during the rebuilding process.
“In an industry where HR professionals typically work alone vs. on a team, it’s always refreshing to partner with someone on the client side who understands the wild ride that is HR in hospitality.”
