Hospitality Recruiting Strategy to Overcome Limited Candidate Volume 

Empowered Hospitality partnered with a growing hospitality brand to support hiring in a competitive market with limited candidate volume. 

With a short timeline, limited budget, and low applicant flow, the client needed a fast, effective way to generate candidates and make hires quickly. 

Rather than relying on traditional recruiting methods alone, we identified a high-volume hiring approach, including an open call hiring event, as the most effective way to rapidly increase candidate volume, improve engagement, and accelerate hiring in a constrained market. 

The Challenge: Low Candidate Pool and Urgent Hiring Needs 

The client was hiring in a market with significantly lower candidate volume than major metro areas, making it difficult to attract qualified applicants through traditional channels. 

At the same time, they needed to hire quickly, with approximately three weeks to plan and execute, and a limited initial budget. 

The team also had no prior experience running structured hiring initiatives, adding additional complexity to execution.

We evaluated multiple approaches to improving candidate flow and hiring outcomes. 

Given the limited candidate pool and urgency to hire, we aligned on a high-volume recruiting strategy designed to maximize reach and increase the likelihood of successful hires. 

This included implementing an open call hiring event as a core tactic within a broader recruiting strategy. 

Top-of-Funnel Candidate Generation 

We focused on strengthening top-of-funnel recruiting efforts to increase candidate flow. 

Our approach prioritized driving awareness and ensuring candidates engaged with the opportunity through structured, multi-touch communication. 

This included: 

  • Targeted outreach to qualified candidates
  • Reminder communication to increase engagement 
  • Follow-up outreach to improve response rates  

By treating each candidate as high-value, we increased engagement and improved overall conversion. 

Expanded Sourcing Strategy Beyond Traditional Job Boards 

To overcome limited candidate volume, we expanded sourcing efforts beyond traditional job platforms. 

This included leveraging multiple channels to reach candidates where they were already active. 

Our sourcing strategy included: 

  • Targeted outreach through hospitality-specific platforms  
  • Local and community-based channels  
  • Social media promotion  
  • In-store visibility to capture local traffic  

This multi-channel approach helped increase candidate visibility and drive stronger applicant flow. 

Structured Hiring Execution and Process Design 

We developed a clear framework for both pre-event preparation and day-of execution, enabling the client to run the hiring process effectively. 

This included: 

  • Building and managing an RSVP list with confirmed time slots  
  • Creating clear timelines, tools, and communication workflows  
  • Providing frequent updates and guidance throughout the process  

Our role focused on building structure and systems, while enabling the client to confidently execute. 

Budget Optimization & Role Prioritization 

With a limited budget, we prioritized outreach toward the most critical and hardest-to-fill roles, particularly back-of-house positions. 

Efforts were focused on areas where the candidate pipeline was weakest, ensuring resources were used strategically to drive results. 

Measurable Outcomes: Stronger Candidate Flow and Immediate Hiring Results 

By aligning the recruiting strategy with market realities, the client was able to significantly improve hiring outcomes. 

  • Increased Candidate Volume: High-volume strategy expanded reach and applicant flow 
  • Improved Candidate Engagement: Multi-touch communication increased response and attendance 
  • Immediate Hiring Results: Approximately 12 candidates received written offer letters
